At SMF, we strive to provide positive reinforcement and support to all students, highlighting the endless possibilities for their future. Our staff offers a consistent voice when navigating high school, such as assistance with course selection and involvement in school activities. We also provide all the necessary resources to navigate the college application process, including a Letter of Recommendation Request Form, support for the college essays and guidance on working through the Common Application. Our team offers recommendations for internship opportunities to help students’ applications stand out from the crowd. We suggest ways for students to get involved in their community and offer tips for becoming leaders. In addition, our staff provides support on communication and interview skills, helping students effectively highlight their strengths and goals. Finally, we help in applying for scholarships, ensuring that all students have access to the financial resources they need to achieve their academic goals.
Positive Vibes
There is enough stress on high school students with everything they need to juggle: academics, extracurricular activities, jobs, homework, family commitments, and more. SMF will make sure the college application process is not stressful or overwhelming. We are available to keep things calm, organized and stress free so no mistakes are made and everyone is excited and happy about the process.
Access to SMF staff
While most students have successfully navigated through high school and put together their college applications, there are still numerous small and big questions that may arise throughout the process. SMF will support and reassure students and parents with any concerns along the way and use their more than 40 years of college advising experience to support teachers and counselors, as well. They will serve as a tireless advocate for students and offer assistance whenever needed.
College application process
The college application process gets more challenging each year with different schools requiring various documents. SMF can assist with all the documents including the Letters of Recommendation, essays, transcripts, and financial aid documents. It is our specialty to ensure these documents are done thoughtfully and professionally and students can package themselves in the best way possible.
College Essays
Writing the perfect college essay is a critical part of the application process. It is an opportunity for the student to share something interesting about themselves and why it is so important. College essays are unique in the way they should be written and the topics they address. SMF can assist with brainstorming the topic and writing the essays to meet those specific requirements.
Get Involved
Colleges are excited about students who get involved in their school and community. It is important to find things that match their personal or academic interests and try to help others. We can assist with suggesting and finding opportunities that will help students stand out as an active member of their community and school.
Be a Leader
Not everyone can be a President or Captain. That is okay. Being a leader can be chairing a committee or bringing something new to a club they have not offered before. We will help students find ownership of something that they are interested in and growing it to something that they can claim as their own. Engaging other students to participate and creating enthusiasm around something they believe in….that is a leader!
